Thousands of runners are starting to cross the finish line after completing the BT Rock n' Roll Marathon in Liverpool today, along the course runners were treated to an eclectic mix of music along with some of Liverpool's iconic sights.
A Competitor Group event, the inaugural BT Rock 'n' Roll Liverpool Marathon & ½ Marathon is expected to welcome 10,000 participants on Sunday 25th May 2014.
Both the marathon and half-marathon offer scenic courses that start and finish along the waterfront, featuring views of the stunning docks, rich architecture, spectacular museums and historic commercial districts along the course.
Live bands and entertainment are staged approximately every mile along the 13.1-mile and 26.2-mile courses. Event weekend concludes with a finish line celebration and post race concert.
The Liverpool race is part of an international series of entertainment themed marathons and half-marathons, which revolutionized the running industry in 1998 by infusing the race course with live bands, cheer teams and entertaining water stations.
Over the 17-year history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, charity partners have raised more than £180m through the events for a variety of worthy causes.
Taking place on Sunday, 25 May, the inaugural race starts at Albert Dock and finishes by the waterfront at Liverpool Echo Arena, where The Farm & The Christians will perform their top hits as the events main headlining musical acts.
Race Director, Rob Griffiths said: “We look forward to bringing Echo Arena to life with epic performances by The Farm and The Christians along with other local bands.
The finish line festival will surely help participants continue the day’s celebrations by offering fun and lively musical performances.”
