T.J Hughes re-opens in Birkenhead

By Tom Dootson

Today, discount department store chain TJ Hughes has reopened its Birkenhead branch, more than a year after it closed its doors. The shop was packed full of customers and has created over 60 new jobs and has brought many people back to Birkenhead. BayT V spoke to the manager Richard Hodgson.

The Liverpool-based chain went into administration last year with the closure of 57 stores nationwide.

But Lewis Home Retail Ltd, who bought some of the TJ Hughes stores, have breathed new life into eight of them, including the Liverpool store at London Road, and now the Birkenhead store which will open after a complete re-vamp of the four floor 37,000 sqft shop.

Two other businesses, Toymaster and Magical Homes, have also opened at the centre this month in the run up to the Christmas shopping period.
