Preview: Liverpool vs Swansea

By Eamonn Lavery

Liverpool will look to put a disappointing set of results behind them when they welcome Swansea to Anfield on Sunday.

After putting themselves back in contention for a top four place with a decent run of form, which just happens to be the period since the signature of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, the Reds' 2-0 defeat at the hands of West Brom all but put paid to their Champions League ambitions for another year.

Liverpool sit 12 points behind (currently fourth placed) Tottenham with 12 games remaining, and with four other teams occupying the space in between, it looks like a fourth place finish would take more than a miracle.

The Reds will be receive a boost when they welcome Sturridge back into the starting line-up for the game against Swansea. The former Chelsea striker was cup-tied for Thursday's Europa league clash with Zenit, which ended in another deflating 2-0 defeat, despite Liverpool having enough chances to at least come away with a point.

There will be more than three points on the line, though, as Liverpool's under pressure manager, Brendan Rodgers, faces the team he left for Anfield. The Swans currently sit one point and two places above Liverpool in the table.

A win will see the Anfield team leapfrog Swansea, but a loss will see Liverpool cut further adrift of the top sides, so three points will be paramount.
