Madnice 1st Birthday: Kutmah, Amir, Abigail Wyles & Almighty SionBy Eamonn Lavery
In just one year of events, Madnice Marauders has brought in some of the biggest names in UK and US hip-hop. Sneaky, Peter Parker, Jehst, Ras G, and DJ Format have all graced the Shipping Forecast stage over that year.
For the first in a two part blockbuster, Madnice welcomed back LA hip hop pioneer Kutmah and East Coast crate digger DJ Amir, one half of legendary walking hip hop lexicons Kon + Amir.
Kutmah was a driving force behind the revelatory movements in LA that led to the establishment of one of the most original and influential scenes to arise from the USA in years, if not decades. Whilst living on the West Coast, Kutmah gave emerging talents like Dibiase, and early scene leader Flying Lotus, a stage from which the LA beats scene spread across the world.
Also on the bill were Abigail Wyles, whose song "Toby Jug", produced by Doc Daneeka was one of those songs that made the "blogosphere" "explode". Her soulful sugary vocals and stripped back, piano driven atmospheres have put her firmly in the "ones to watch" list for 2013.
Starting events off in the Shipping Forecast's Hold were Liverpool beats duo Almighty Sion, consisting of the individually excellent Sert One and Bolts. Expect to hear more from these two soon on Bay TV Liverpool.
The second part of Madnice's birthday celebrations looks a doozy. The ultimately legendary Maseo from De La Soul will be playing the ever so intimate surroundings of afforementioned Hold. This will no doubt sell out so get your tickets here, and get them quick:
